INTERVIEW: POCKET OF LOLLIPOPS – members Maitejosune Urrechaga & Tony Kapel
What first got you into music?
TK - Friends, movies, skate videos, and MTV.
Who or what inspired you to make music?
TK - Seeing a local band when I was in 7th grade.
MU - Music allows me to have the sonic release to what i don’t paint or make.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Acid Punk or Posh Punk.
What is your creative process like?
TK - Maite has bass lines in her notes, we both have statements written down in books, or on the wall. We generally like to play the songs out a few times before we decide to record them. It creates the actual energy of the song.
Who would you most like to collaborate with given the opportunity? Visual or musical artist?
MU - The Evens.
TK - John Cale.
Who is your favorite visual artist?
MU - John Singer Sargent & Paola Pivi.
TK - Ralph Steadman.
How is making music different from creating fine art, or is it? Do you see them as separate?
MU - Fine art is solo thing it feels like. An exhibition has a different expectation in the product for the audience. The performance in making the art isn’t seen by an audience, so it’s almost a thing of what the went through.
On stage the product is witnessed by an audience, and will always be changing. It allows us to share how we feel that day using something we made a long time ago, so the music never has a final product.
What is one message you would give to your listeners/viewers?
Rub your toes in some sand!
What’s next for you?
We kinda don't want to say.
